Presenter: Jessica O’Neil, DO - University of Vermont College of Medicine
Dr. O’Neil is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellow at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Healthcare. A graduate of Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine (2009), she completed her General Psychiatry residency training at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Healthcare. She is interested in child and adolescent psychotherapy, systems of care issues and eating disorders. She has presented on the adult foster care system, a family-based treatment for eating disorders and its application to a primary care setting, and an objective assessment of neighborhood physical activity.
Overview: This talk will identify the basic principles of medical ethics, particularly when working with children and families. Confidentiality concerns that arise when working with children will be discussed, including the role of a “Mandatory Reporter”. Finally, ethical issues when prescribing medications to children will be reviewed.
